OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
Hello 5th Grader! The Hingham Art Teachers have been working hard to give you fun and creative ways to review what you already know about visual art. We understand that different families have different resources at home (so do I!) so you will have choices. Over the final few weeks of school, fifth graders will be creating artwork based on art professions such as illustration, graphic design, and architecture! As usual, there are two choices of lessons this week, one it slightly shorter of an activity the other! All the art teachers miss you a lot, and will see you soon! If you have questions, submit a question on google classroom or ask your parents to email me. I am the art teacher at PRS, Ms Kelfer: [email protected] INTRODUCTION This week you will be an ILLUSTRATOR! You may not know this but I actually consider myself an illustrator! As you know, illustrators create images that go along with words in books and articles! A successful illustrator SHOWS what words say! Illustration has been around for a long long time, you could say that cave paintings are illustrations as they tell a story about what life was like thousands of years ago. When I look at illustrations I look at the STYLE. Style is the way that someone creates something, someone style includes all the choices they may make when creating! A style makes someones recognizable as theirs, though many artists borrow style ideas from other artists. Look at the images to Illustrators work to the right: You will probably recognize Oliver Jeffers' work from the book The Day the Crayons Quit! He is one of my favorite illustrators currently working! The other illustrator is E.H. Shepherd, you'll know him from the famous Winnie the Pooh stories! They were my favorite when I was a little kid! Shepherd was working in the late 1800's so a LONG time ago! How are the illustrators similar? How are they different? How would you describe their style of illustrations? Can you guess what materials each artist used? MATERIALS (the same for both activities)
