OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
Hello 5th Grader! The Hingham Art Teachers have been working hard to give you fun and creative ways to review what you already know about visual art. We understand that different families have different resources at home (so do I!) so you will have choices. Over these next few days, 5th grade students will be continuing to work on the element of art SPACE! All the art teachers miss you a lot, and will see you soon! If you have questions, submit a question on google classroom or ask your parents to email me. I am the art teacher at PRS, Ms Kelfer: [email protected] INTRODUCTION This week there are two choices of lessons, one is a little longer of a project than the other so make sure you choose what interests you but also what fits into your schedule! SPACE in the art world refers to distance and around things within a drawing, painting, or print. Artists can create the illusion that objects are close to the viewer or farther away from the viewer by using a few tricks you can see them to the right! Rene Margritte is a well known artist known for Surrealism! Surrealism is art inspired by dreams or fantasy or includes objects that are combined, that don't make sense or don't belong together, they are often humorous. In both of these activities, you will look at the artwork by Rene Margritte, ask yourself when doing so, what ways did the artist make objects look farther away in the image? What makes the image surreal? Find Surrealism cool? Watch the video (with the lobster) to the right! MATERIALS NEEDED This week the materials needed are the same for both activities
ACTIVITY CHOICE 1: Surreal Landscape Remember a landscape is a piece of art that is showing some sort of space of land! Look at the landscape by Rene Margritte entitled Golconde to the right...
In this activity you will be creating a surreal landscape where it’s raining something unusual!
ACTIVITY CHOICE 2: Surreal Bedroom Take a look at the artwork by Rene Margarite entitled The Listening Room to the right...
One method to create a 3D space is by using something called one point perspective! You will learn how to make a room in one point perspective as a part of this activity!
