Listen to me read the introduction to you:
OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
Hello 5th Grader! The Hingham Art Teachers have been working hard to give you fun and creative ways to review what you already know about visual art. We understand that different families have different resources at home (so do I!) so you will have choices. Over these next few days, 5th grade students will be creating natural sculptures! All the art teachers miss you a lot, and will see you soon! If you have questions, submit a question on google classroom or ask your parents to email me. I am the art teacher at PRS, Ms Kelfer: [email protected] INTRODUCTION As usual, there are two choices of lessons this week, they both require the same materials and about the same amount of time! They are designed to be done independently or with your family! Read through both options and make sure you choose what interests you! You probably know this already, but art doesn't need to be made with new, purchased materials! Lots of artists use found materials to create artwork! This week we will focus on creating natural sculptures, this means we will create sculptures using materials that are found outside from the natural world- think rocks, shells, sticks, bark, grass, leaves, maybe even fallen berries, feathers, or flowers! Artists who work with natural materials are often concerned with taking care of the environment! Make sure that as you’re collecting materials you are not picking anything that is still growing! Begin by looking at the artwork by Andy Goldsworthy and Mie Buch Andersen to the right! Andy Goldsworthy creates natural sculptures that are held together by weaving materials, balancing objects or tieing parts together using grasses or reeds! He doesn't use any glue or tape! He also doesn't use any paint or add any color to his materials! Mie Buch Andersen uses natural materials to make Mandalas! A Mandala is a piece of art that is in a circle design typically found in Hindu and Buddist religions, they symbolize unity and harmony! Andersen creates mandalas as a way to meditate and as a way to decorate the city of Copenhagen where she lives! Materials (note: these activities CAN be done inside with found objects like cardboard, recycled cans, toys, legos, blocks, play dough etc! You could even make a drawing of a sculpture you would make if you could!)
