Listen to me read the introduction to you:
OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
Hello 5th Grader! The Hingham Art Teachers have been working hard to give you fun and creative ways to review what you already know about visual art. We understand that different families have different resources at home (so do I!) so you will have choices. Over these next few days, 5th grade students will be map makers! All the art teachers miss you a lot, and will see you soon! If you have questions, submit a question on google classroom or ask your parents to email me. I am the art teacher at PRS, Ms Kelfer: [email protected] INTRODUCTION As usual, there are two choices of lessons this week, they both require the same materials and about the same amount of time! One is designed to be done independently, the other involves a little participation with someone in your family! Read through both options and make sure you choose what interests you! Maps have been around since the beginning of time! You might not know this but there was a time before iphones when people kept many fold up maps in their cars to get around! There are road maps, pirate maps, maps of the world, maps of america etc! Maps come in so many different colors, designs etc, but they all tell information in a visual way! Take a look at the antique maps of Boston and Hingham, what are some similarities and differences you notice?! Some artists and illustrators use map-like imagery in their artwork! Begin by looking at the artwork by Gareth Fuller and Ruby Tayor! Gareth Fuller creates these incredibly detailed maps of places around the world, but more recently he has been creating quarantine maps which are pretty funny! He is your inspiration for the treasure map activity! Ruby Taylor creates more colorful maps of places for magazines, her maps have little pictures that represent things in the cities that she is trying to portray! Her artwork is the inspiration for the bedroom map activity! MATERIALS (the same for both activities)
